Since the explosive launch of generative AI three years ago, content and marketing departments have built good machines for producing more content faster – and cheaper. In fact, 78% say speed is AI’s most significant contribution.
However, when marketers were asked to select other contributions AI has made, quality was clearly the one left out, ranking near the bottom at 17%. At the same time, B2B marketers report struggling with accuracy, quality, and brand authenticity in their AI-generated content.
“When everyone can create more content faster, speed stops being a competitive advantage. The actual advantage is knowing when to take the shortcut and when to take the long road,” explains Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer, MarketingProfs.
And the demands for speed are taking a toll. Sixty-five percent of B2B marketers say they faced increased pressure to produce content faster in the last 12 months. Among them, 48% of individual contributors report burnout as a result. Yet, marketing leaders don’t appear to notice: 38% of marketing leaders say the pressure to produce faster has improved efficiency — but only 22% of individual contributors do.
“Marketing executives applaud the speed, efficiency, and cost savings of using AI without taking a closer look at not only what it’s doing to the quality of the content, but also what it’s costing their teams,” explains Stephanie Stahl, managing director, Content Marketing Institute. “The smart place to focus is on the factors that the research says build trust and credibility: providing useful, practical information, having industry expertise, and sharing customer stories and testimonials.”
This is the 17th annual content marketing survey conducted by the Content Marketing Institute and MarketingProfs. To see the full report, including additional insights and what steps marketers should prioritize for 2027, visit cmi.media/b2b-2027-research.
